IAARD has the vision to become a world class research and development institution in producing and developing agricultural innovations in supporting the realization of the industrial agriculture system.
To achieve these vision, IAARD has set out the mission, i.e.:

| 2. | improving the quality of agricultural research resources as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of their uses, |
| 3. | developing national and international networks to master science and technologies and improving the role of IAARD in agricultural development.

Our Focused Commodities
Research and development efforts focus on the following major commodities:
- Food Crops: rice, maize, soyabeans, cassava, sweet potato, mungbeans and peanuts
- Vegetables: chili, tomatoe, shallots, stringbeans and potato
- Fruits: banana, mango, citrus, mangosteen, melon, papaya and durian
- Ornamental: roses, orchids, gladioli, chrysanthemums, carnations, lilies and anthuriums
- Estate crops: palm oil, rubber, coffee, cacao, tea, cinchona, sugarcane, coconut, black pepper, cashew, cloves, tobacco, cotton, ginger, greater galingale, turmeric, patchouli, nutmeg, vanilla, kapok, kenaf, jute and sago.
- Livestock: beef cattle, sheep, goat, native chicken, duck and dairy cattle.
