Demand for fruits, vegetables and ornamental crops (such as flowers) are growing as living standards rise. Indonesian Center for Horticulture Research and Development (ICHORD)’s four research institutes are Indonesian Vegetables Research Institute (IVegRI), Indonesian Fruits Research Institute (IFRURI), Indonesian Citrus and Subtopical Fruits Research Institute (ICiSFRI), and Indonesian Ornamental Crops Research Institute (IOCRI). Those institutes have tasks in conducting research, attaining conservation of germ-plasm, encouraging the development of variety, controlling pests and illness, optimalizing the developed technology of vegetables, fruits, ornamental plant. Their research includes plant breeding, germplasm conservation and utilization, cultivation, control of pests and diseases, post-harvest handling, and various socio-economic aspects.
