VegRI is one of the technical implementation unit on vegetables R&D under the coordination of Indonesian Center for Horticulture Research and Development (ICHORD). The main function of IVegRI are to conduct :

research on genetics, plant breeding, seed production and the utilization of germplasm collections of vegetables,
research on morphology, physiology, ecology, entomology, and phytopathology of vegetables,
research on component of technology system and vegetables agribusiness,
technical services and assistances to vegetable research activities.

The research was mainly focused on : Potato, Hot pepper, shallot, tomato, beans, cabbage, yardlong bean and mushroom. Moreover, the priority research levelled by

Prioritized Commodities : Potato, hot pepper, and shalllot
Prospective Commodities : Egg plant, cucumber
Trend setter Commodities : Indigenous tropical vegetables

In broad outline, the aim of the research program was to create effective technology to support the development of the system of vegetables agribusiness
