Estate crops are important for the development of Indonesian agribusiness. Indonesian Center for Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD)’s four research institutes are Indonesian Spices and Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMERI), Indonesian Tobacco and Fiber Crops Research Institute (ITOFCRI), Indonesian Coconut and Palmae Research Institute (ICOPRI), which are having tasks in conducting research, attaining conservation of germ-plasm, encouraging the development of variety, controlling pests and illness, optimalizing the developed technology of spices, coconut, palmae, tobacco, fiber. Each of these institutes performs research on cultivation, breeding, farming systems, post-harvest processing and biotechnology.
